Frequently Asked Questions

Kids & Family Photography

Q: What should we wear?

A: Wear outfits that coordinate—not match. Stick to a color palette (neutrals, earth tones, soft blues, etc.) and avoid logos or loud patterns. Layers and textures photograph beautifully! When you book a photoshoot with Photography by Shayna, you will also receive a complete guide to dressing your family for your photoshoot, along with Pinterest boards to inspire you. Q: How long will the session last?

A: Most family sessions last about 45–60 minutes. That gives us enough time to capture both posed portraits and candid moments.

Q: What if my kids don’t cooperate?

A: Totally normal—and totally fine! I specialize in capturing real moments. I’ll gently guide them, and we’ll play some games to keep it fun and relaxed.

Q: Can we bring snacks or toys?

A: Absolutely! Bring anything that will help your child feel comfortable—small snacks (non-messy ones), favorite toys, or a comfort item.

Q: Where will the shoot take place?

A: I’ll offer a few location suggestions based on your family’s vibe—nature spots, urban settings, or even at home. Let me know your preference!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad?

A: We’ll reschedule if needed! I keep a few backup dates available just in case.

Q: When will we get our photos?

A: You’ll receive your edited gallery within 2–3 weeks. I’ll send a private online link where you can download your images and order prints.

Q: Can grandparents or pets join?

A: Yes! Just let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly. The more love, the better.

Q: Do you help with posing?

A: Definitely. I’ll guide you every step of the way, but also leave room for natural, candid moments. Think more “fun and connected” than stiff or staged.

Individual & Headshot Photography

Q: What should I wear for my headshot?

A: Choose solid colors or subtle patterns that flatter your skin tone and align with your brand or industry. Avoid logos, neon colors, and overly busy patterns. Bring a few options—we can decide together what works best on camera!

Q: How long does the session last?

A: Sessions typically last 20–60 minutes depending on your package. We’ll take our time to get a variety of expressions and poses that feel natural and confident.

Q: I’m awkward in front of the camera—can you help?

A: 100%! It’s my job to make you feel comfortable and guide you through flattering angles, poses, and expressions. You don’t need to know what to do—just show up, and I’ll handle the rest.

Q: How should I prepare?

A: Get a good night’s sleep, drink water, and arrive with clean, styled hair and light makeup (if you wear it). If you’re getting a haircut or color, aim to do it a few days before the session.

Q: Can I do outfit changes?

A: Yes! Most sessions allow time for 1–2 outfit changes. It’s a great way to get both formal and casual looks.

Q: What if I need a specific background or style?

A: Let me know in advance if you need a white backdrop, environmental setting, or brand-specific style. I can tailor the session to your needs.

Q: When will I receive my images?

A: You’ll receive a proof gallery within a few days, and final retouched images 1–2 weeks after you make your selections.

Q: Can you retouch blemishes or flyaways?

A: Yes! Light retouching (like skin smoothing, flyaway cleanup, and color correction) is included. Just let me know if you have specific requests.

Pet Photography

Q: What kinds of pets do you photograph?

A: All kinds! Dogs and cats are the most common, but I’m happy to photograph any animal that’s part of your family—rabbits, reptiles, birds, you name it.

Q: What if my pet won’t sit still?

A: No problem at all! I work with all energy levels and personalities. I use a mix of patience, treats, toys, and tricks to get natural, expressive photos—even from the wiggliest pets.

Q: Can I be in the photos too?

A: Absolutely! I love capturing the bond between you and your pet. You can be in a few shots, or we can focus on you both together the entire time—it’s totally up to you.

Q: What should I bring to the session?

A: Bring your pet’s favorite treats, a toy that grabs their attention, a leash or harness, and any outfit or accessory you’d like them to wear. A water bowl and a towel (in case of drool or muddy paws!) can also be handy.

Q: Where will the session take place?

A: We can shoot at a location that suits your pet best—your home, a favorite park, the beach, or a quiet outdoor spot. I’ll suggest options based on your pet’s temperament and your vision.

Q: What if the weather is bad?

A: If we’re planning an outdoor session, we’ll keep an eye on the forecast and reschedule if needed. Your pet’s safety and comfort always come first.

Q: My dog needs to stay on leash—is that okay?

A: Totally fine! Safety is the priority. I can work with leashes and edit them out of the final photos when possible.

Q: When will we get the photos?

A: You’ll receive your edited gallery within 1–2 weeks, delivered via a private online link where you can download high-res images and order prints if you’d like.

Q: How long is the session?

A: Most sessions last about 45–60 minutes—long enough to get a great variety of images without overwhelming your pet.
